I'm laying here.
I'm breathing here.
And you never thought you'd see the light of me
Shining through the shattered diamonds
Of what I wanted us to become.
You never imagined I could be so stubborn
And continue to grow when you were holding me down
By the rubber soles of your desert worn boots.
You never imagined I could be so stern
When all you saw was the lace of love
And the grace used to dance upon your life
All I ever wanted was to hold you
And run my fingers through your hair
When all you needed to hear was a simple...
I love you. All will be okay, I promise.
You never saw the simple smile
Coming from the alley way
Pointed in your direction
Pointed toward the stars
So you could grin another day
Granted you had the opportunity to live through
Another day.
But this is what happens
And this what's left
Of a love you wouldn't hold.
Graceful isn't what you wanted
And tripping up is unacceptable for me to do.
So I'll dance in someone else's sky.
Come home soon
Come home safe
Even if you aren't coming home to me.
