Poetry & Music: An Interview with Paul Muldoon

"[The song lyric] needs something else. It may be recited as a poem, but for one reason or another, it's missing something. The poem conventionally brings its own music," says Paul Muldoon in a recent interview held at the Academy offices. Read what he has to say about the relationship between poetry and song.

Narrative of the Image: A Correspondence Between Wright & Simic

"If the image, indeed, is descriptive, then the narrative of image is traceable, though traceable as footprints are in a rapidly warming snow, distinct but always on the edge of disappearance." Check out this series of letters between Charles Wright and Charles Simic about the function of the image in poetry, and listen to recently added audio highlights from Wright's reading at the 2011 AWP Conference.

PIW Archive Tours

In celebration of the festival, we created a new tour of poems from the PIW archives, with the theme Chaos and Order. And, at the closing ceremony of the festival, the guest poets read poems they had chosen from the archives of PIW. Read their selection as a new PIW archive tour here.
