DarkPoetry Poem of the Day: Legends and Lies

The tales that are told
Each and every day
Are the stories of our past
Not just lies that people say.

The legends people tell you
Are not just from the mind
They are the truths that have been hidden
Left here for us to find.

How do I know, you ask?
Well that is simple and plain
For I was there my friend
And no, I'm not insane.

I tell you my story
Not as who I am now
But from a life, long past
Come back when they allow.

So forget what you know
What you thought that you knew
And if you tell me your story
I will tell you mine, too.

Your Poem for August 21 2010

Your Daily Poem logo

I readily admit that I have not a shred of objectivity when it comes to the subject of Little Women, so I'd probably have loved this poem even if it were not wonderful--but it is. I want to be right there under the elm trees . . . on the trolley . . . in that theatre . . . holding onto this memory . . . hearing about it half a century later. Andrea has captured this moment in time so beautifully!

[Poetry Chaikhana] Lalla - Dance, Lalla, with nothing on

Here's your Daily Poem from the Poetry Chaikhana --

Dance, Lalla, with nothing on

By Lalla
(14th Century)

English version by Coleman Barks

Dance, Lalla, with nothing on
but air: Sing, Lalla,
wearing the sky.

Look at this glowing day! What clothes
could be so beautiful, or
more sacred?

Thought for the Day:

Use everything:
Joy, fear, success, suffering.
A seeker hasn't the luxury
to waste life in pursuit
of easy, grand experiences.

Hi Omss -

So, has it been a crazy week for you? Don't worry, you're not alone. It seems that everyone has been dealing with something this week. Everything from the ongoing devastation of the floods in Pakistan to personal crises. In one afternoon I narrowly avoided three separate car accidents. No matter how hard the week has been, congratulate yourself for coming through.

Let's all take a cue from Lalla as we go into the weekend: less social propriety and more singing on this glowing day! :-)

Ivan
