Your Poem for July 31 2010

Your Daily Poem logo

My sister is the fisherman in the family; so she'll enjoy and relate to this poem on a whole different level than I; I'd be content to just sit in the boat and admire the osprey! This is a deceptively simple poem; read it several times and the power of those two middle verses--the exquisite description of the bird's movements--will leave you almost breathless.

We've been trying for some time now to implement a way for you to comment on poems. We think we've finally done it, but it may take a few days to work out the kinks, so please bear with us if things are a little out of kilter at first. So many of you take time to send me reactions or thoughts on the daily poems; now you'll have a chance to share those with the whole YDP family, if you like. Of course, you can continue to send them just to me, as well--or free to start up a discussion on Twitter!
Today's poem is
