| I used this poem some years back to kick off one of my April Poetry Parades, and it cost me a subscriber. She said, as a good Southerner of high moral standards, she was highly offended. Well, I'm a good Southerner of high moral standards, and I think this poem is hilarious--so I'm not sure what that says about me! In any case, I hope no one on the YDP list is offended by Barbara's outrageous (but completely authentic: Tiny Register's is in Tallahassee, Florida, and J.B.'s is in Newnan, Georgia) ode to so many things that are sacred in the old South--good barbecue being at the top of that list! Please take a moment to visit the home page of Your Daily Poem today to view our new Poet of the Month feature. Each month, I'll invite a poet to share his/her responses to a specific set of questions so you can learn a bit more about how they do what they do with words. Our featured poet in August is Diane Lockward; I hope you enjoy learning more about her! |
