DarkPoetry Poem of the Day: Beautiful Contradiction

Why did God curse me with this wretched body
Trapped within this ghoulish-looking shell?
This personal prison misrepresents me
Forever burning – breathing, living hell…

Every day I have to remember who I am -
The man that I didn't ever want to be,
But here I sit before you in the flesh my friend
Truly a most despiteful sight to see…

I find myself a beautiful contradiction
Most fully aware of my grim disease.
Though unsightly to you I may appear so
Only I truly know the man who lies beneath .
